"The treasure is in the question, not the answer." Come entertain the questions that will get us kicked out of Sunday school!
There are questions, important questions, even troubling questions, that some of us, well, most of us, have never asked about our religions and lives of faith. As a young, inquisitive child, perhaps you asked these questions relentlessly. “Why? What does this mean? How come?” I hope your questions were not silenced. Or maybe you gave up, or were taught to stop asking.
This Blog, Questions of Faith, has been created in respectful defiance (the two can co-exist) of those who would not allow questions to be asked. It has been created as a challenge to anyone (including myself) who would suggest that they have all of the answers, without even an honest and critical entertaining of the questions. If you start from a place of “I believe this, this is true,” then I think a fair and logical question each of us should ask is a simple “why?”
This Blog is a space to ask WHY? If you have never asked WHY, I hope you will now. You are of course free to adopt the beliefs of your parents, your educators and your religion, but must those beliefs be blind? Must it be a faith without questions, or worse, an ignorant faith? I suspect many are afraid of where a WHY will lead them. I am more afraid of where silence will LEAVE me. And so, with courage and persistence, I ask WHY here and now. I hope you’ll join in the journey, and not get off the train if it happens to take a little detour from your current philosophies and beliefs. “Ask, and it shall be given unto you,” Jesus said. When was the last time you asked WHY?
If you have a great question of faith, I'd love to hear it! Please email it to me: JeremyKocal@gmail.com
